Understanding Genetic Results: Genetic Health Screen
The Genetic Health Screen can identify if you’re at higher-than-average risk of developing more than 100 conditions including cancer and heart disease.
If your results are positive
If your results are positive, it means that the test found a change in your DNA that increases your risk of a specific medical condition. The specific condition will be stated in your report. For all positive results, there are clear steps you and your care team can take to protect your health. For example, if you have an increased risk of cancer due to changes in your DNA, your care team may recommend more frequent screenings so you find it at the earliest stage when it’s most easily treatable—and survivable.
The Genomic Life navigation team is also here to support both you and your care team as you take steps to stay healthy. We can help answer questions about treatment options, identify resources, and more.
If your results are negative
If your results are negative, that means you’re not at increased risk due to your DNA. It doesn’t mean that you’re at no risk—instead, it’s an indication that the standard screening and check-up recommendations are likely right for you.
Your DNA results are one piece of your health picture—similar to knowing your family’s health history and discussing with your care team how it may impact your own health.
Next Steps
No matter what your genetic test results show, you’ll still need regular checkups, routine screenings, and healthy habits. Think of your genetic results as an extra tool to help you and your doctors make smarter choices together.
