This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Check Your Risk & Take Action
Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is a good time to check in on whether you're staying up to date on screenings. For many men, that includes talking with a doctor about tests or other exams that can help find prostate cancer early, when it is often easier to treat. Even if you feel fine, keeping up with routine care is an important way to look after yourself and those who depend on you.
Prostate Cancer is Common
1 in 8 men will develop it in their lifetime. But the good news is that most men diagnosed with prostate cancer don't die from it, thanks to early detection and advances in treatment.
Routine Screenings
Prostate cancer can often be found early by testing for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in a man's blood, or via a digital rectal exam. The main benefit of screening is that if prostate cancer is found, it's likely to be at an earlier stage than if no screening was done. This will most likely mean that the cancer is easier to treat. Talk with your provider about the benefits and risks of prostate cancer screening and what plan is right for you based on your health and personal risk.
